I don't know how large Obsidian was when making FNV, but I'd guess couple of dozens people. And they don't have access to the engine, so any addition (that got lost in transition between generations, like quickcasting and underwater combat for Skyblivion) needs to be made on top of the engine using scripts or script extender functions.īasically, I'd say that the team faces as much work as Obsidian did when making FNV. Scripting has changed between Gamebryo and Creation so scripts have to be written from scratch. But they also have to create many assets and voice files from scratch. These remake projects have the advantage of having the engine ready and they don't have to come up with story and NPC backgrounds. Sure, many can be as determined and skilled as game developers, but any such modding team has a fraction of the manpower of a gamedev team.
People who know nothing of coding and modding tend to overestimate the capabilities of modders.
